4th Annual SETX SHOOTOUT! (To Benefit Heroes On the Water-SETX Chapter)

  1. This is going to be a 2 day Team Tournament. A team is 2 anglers max per team. Tournament will consist of two separate divisions, Kayak and Boat Fishing Teams. All proceeds raised during this event will go directly to support local veterans with the Heroes On the Water - SETX Chapter.

  2. Teams must choose between the KAYAK or BOAT divisions. Kayaks will not be allowed to enter the boat division and/or vice versa.

  3. Only 2 slot redfish stringer per day, per team will be your team weight. Winning weight will be a combined 2 day total.  Tournament Payouts to the Top 5 teams in each division. Payouts will be based on # of entries into each respective division.

  4. Weigh-Ins will be held daily (Sat-Sun) @ SALT Club Clubhouse located on Pleasure Island, TX from 3:00pm - 4:30pm. This will be a live fish weigh-in. Teams will be responsible for their own weigh bags and release of fish each day. Scales will open at 3:00pm daily and close at 4:30pm daily. All teams submitting fish must be in line at the registration table BEFORE 4:30pm each day to qualify and to receive the weigh-in slip for the scales.

  5. Tournament will be held on Saturday, October 19th & Sunday, October 20th. Captain’s Meeting & Dinner will be Friday, October 18th beginning at 6:00pm. This will be an informal non-mandatory meeting held at Buffalo Wild Wings in Beaumont, TX (4235 Dowlen Rd Beaumont, TX 77706). Anglers will have the opportunity to sign up for event, pick up any UCKA tourney swag available and ask any last minute questions they may have.

  6. Entry fee will be $250.00 per team (2 angler max). ($200.00 of entry fee will go to tournament payouts - $50.00 of entry fee will be donated to HOW-SETX). There will be an optional side pot buy-in for all teams in their respective divisions. Side Pot buy-in will be $100.00/team available online and at Captain’s Meeting (Side Pot shown below). A 50/50 CASH SIDE POT is also available to support another local non-profit organization (see below). Buy-in for this is $20/team and will be for heaviest single flounder of the entire tournament.

  7. Teams may register for tournament online or at Captain’s Meeting only. NO entries allowed on tournament day. Credit Cards will be accepted. There will be raffle items available throughout the weekend. This benefit is for the Heroes On the Water-SETX Chapter (HOW-SETX).

  8. Fishing Times will be as follows:  7am - 4:30pm...You may launch your vessel at any time but NO lines may enter the water before 7am on Day 1.  All fishing on Day 1 must cease @ 4:30pm and may not begin again until 7am on Day 2.

  9. A 1/2 pound 'Live Fish' bonus will be awarded to each daily stringer.  Only one fish must be alive to receive the 1/2 pound bonus weight.  Maximum bonus weight will be 1/2 pound per stringer per day. There will be no penalty for dead fish.

  10. Frozen, mutilated, or inedible fish will not be accepted for weigh-in. Fish must be in fresh and edible condition in accordance with tournament standards. Violations of any federal or state laws will result in team disqualification. Unsportsmanlike behavior is grounds for disqualification.

  11. All entrants MUST register at designated check-in table by 4:30pm daily located at the weigh-in area to receive their Team Weigh-In Slip before weighing in any fish each day. Official Time shall be a team’s ‘Weigh-In’ time that fish are recorded at the scales.

  12. Method of Measurement:  Weigh Master will utilize a Slanted Check-It Stik (Measuring device will be available for viewing at the Captain's Meeting).  Weigh Master will utilize a “Perfect Pincher” slid to 27” max. If an entered fish exceeds the allowable limits, only that fish will be Disqualified and will not affect the rest of the Team's stringer weight.   

  13. Weigh Master reserves the right to retain any fish for further inspection, if deemed necessary.

  14. All final decisions on eligibility and acceptance of a stringer will be at the Weigh Master and Tournament Director's discretion. All decisions of Tournament Director pertaining to this event are final. In the event of a dispute, Tournament liability shall be limited to the return of entry fees paid only.

  15. If there are any ties after the completion of Day 2 for this tournament only, the winners will be determined by heaviest daily stringer AFTER added 'live fish bonus'.  If there is still a tie of daily heaviest stringer weight, the winnings of tied spots will be divided equally.

  16. Daily Team Side Pots will be available for BOTH divisions.  With Team side pot buy-in ($100.00/team), they will be entered into all 4 tournament side pots for their division (Two on Day 1 & Two on Day 2) which will pay two spots (1st & 2nd) each!  Side Pot categories for both days will be Heaviest Daily Stringer (after 1/2lb bonus) and Most COMBINED Spots of stringer (Spots for both fish weighed in will be counted and combined…NO ADDITIONAL FISH MAY BE BROUGHT IN).  Each side pot will pay 100% back to all anglers entered depending on # of entries. It is our intent to pay Top 2 in each category, but will depend on # of entries.  For Most Spots, any spots that are touching and/or continuous will be counted as one.  Each team may only weigh in two fish max. per day.  Angler must notify Weigh Master before submitting fish for record.  The Weigh Master will make all final decisions.  Any Side Pot category ties will be broken by earliest Weigh-In time for that day only. 

  17. There will be an additional 50/50 cash Team side pot (Heaviest Flounder) available for purchase to benefit the Cristin and Katie Grubbs Scholarship Fund. This 50/50 cash side pot will pay out to the heaviest single Flounder of the entire tournament regardless of division (50% to the Winner - 50% to the Cristin and Katie Grubbs Scholarship Fund). Entry fee will be $20.00/Team. As always, UCKA is proud to match this donation!

  18. There will also be an additional BONUS BIG FISH prize given for the Heaviest Single Red of the tournament. Prize for this TBD. All teams are eligible and BOTH divisions will compete for this prize.

  19. Species of fish:  Redfish must be between 20"-28" , 50/50 Flounder Side Pot (14” Min.)

  20. ALL PUBLIC ACCESSIBLE TX/LA WATERS ARE IN PLAY. Anglers can fish any public accessible waters in TX or LA, but must launch from an area accessible to the general public. No private launches!  You may launch in LA if you choose to do so, but MUST follow all Texas legal limits.

  21. There are no boundaries for this event. All teams may launch and fish Texas or Louisiana waters. If a team receives a legal citation for any reason, that team will be disqualified from this event.

  22. No extra fuel tanks or gas cans may be carried on the boat. Only factory installed fuel tanks are acceptable. Any additional fuel used during tournament hours must be purchased from a retail facility open to the public and pumped through a hose with a nozzle.

  23. No 'mothershipping' will be allowed.  All entrants MUST launch their vessel. Wading will be permitted for both divisions but anglers must remain within 100 yards of their vessel. If an angler chooses to wade out, they must wear their PFD at all times (See other PFD rules below).

  24. Team members must stay within 50 yards of each other at all times.  Communication between teammates is acceptable.  No communication during tournament hours between competing teams and/or any non-tourney participants that could provide a competitive advantage. Tournament hours will begin at 7:00am Oct. 19th and end at 4:30pm Oct. 20th

  25. Texas AND Louisiana waters are allowed. All state, federal, and Texas Parks & Wildlife Regulations shall apply at all times. Tournament fishing is limited to public waters.

  26. A NON-MANDATORY Captain's meeting will be held beginning @ 6:00pm the night before (Friday, Oct. 18) @ Buffalo Wild Wings in Beaumont, TX (4235 Dowlen Rd Beaumont, TX 77706). This is to ensure all teams are familiar with the tournament format and rules.

  27. Artificial only. No live bait and no tandem rigs!  Umbrella Rigs, multi-hook rigs, Tandem rigs are not allowed!  Using them will result in disqualification of the tournament. All fish shall be taken by rod & reel only, or a pole and line, and during tournament hours only. Only (1ea) rod and reel may be used at a time per angler. Trolling as a method of fishing will be allowed.

  28. U.S. Coast Guard Approved PFD's shall be worn as follows: Kayak Division MUST be worn at all times while on the water during Tournament hours. Boat Division MUST be worn at all times while boat motor is powered by primary engine with kill switch engaged.

  29. All boats must be propeller-driven and a minimum of 16 feet in length. Each boat must have all required U.S. Coast Guard safety equipment. Maximum horsepower for all outboards is not to exceed the maximum horsepower rating on the vessel.

  30. In the event of mechanical breakdown, a team my receive assistance from another registered team or tournament official ONLY. Must be reported to the Tournament Director beforehand and fish must be kept separate and/or tagged from the assisting team’s fish.

  31. In the event of an emergency, competitors should call 911 first and then notify the Tournament Director.

  32. There shall be NO consumption of alcoholic beverages while operating a motor vessel OR during tournament hours while competing.

  33. Tournament Winners and random teams will be subject to a Polygraph Examination (lie detector test).

  34. All protests MUST be submitted in writing along with $200 CASH MONEY before the scales close @ 4:30pm on either day of competition.  The protest will be heard and a decision made by Tournament Directors AFTER the scales close on the respective day.  If the protest is upheld, the money ($200) will be refunded, otherwise it will be entered into Tournament proceeds.

  35. Liability insurance, at minimum, is required for all boats entered into this event. Proof of insurance must be with the boat being used and must cover all passengers in the boat. Random checks may be conducted. Failure to provide proof of insurance may result in disqualification.

  36. All persons aboard a tournament boat and/or fishing with a kayak team must be a registered tournament angler.

  37. All teams are expected to remain courteous and respectful when entering fishing areas and/or motoring around another tournament team. No fishing will be allowed within 50 yards of another tournament team. If a team is waved in by another, than ANY tournament team will be allowed to access and fish the same waters.

  38. The tournament committee reserves the right to postpone and/or cancel this event at any time, if there is a safety concern. Once the tournament starts, it will constitute a tournament. All attempts will be made to reschedule should it be canceled.

  39. Upper Coast Kayak Anglers, Tournament Sponsors, Hosts, Entrants, and/or Volunteers are not liable for any accidents, loss or injuries. All teams fish at their own risk.

  40. Tournament Director(s) retain the right to refuse entry to any registered participant.

The Showdown Throwdown on the Upper Coast of Texas is about to begin! H-TOWN won the inagural event back in 2017, but SABINE was able to bring the Cup home in 2018. Who will stake claim to this year's SHOWDOWN CUP???

  • Only 2 slot redfish per day will be your team weight. Winning weight will be a combined 2 day total.  Weigh-Ins will be held daily (Sat-Sun) @ SALT Club Clubhouse located on Pleasure Island, TX from 3pm-4:30pm.

  • Method of Measurement:  Weigh Master will utilize a 'V' style Check-It Stik (Measuring device will be available for viewing at the Captain's Meeting).  Weigh Master will pinch the tail to reach maximum length of fish.  A fish will be given only ONE opportunity to measure in the slot (20" - 28").  If an entered fish exceeds the allowable limits, only that fish will be Disqualified and will not affect the rest of the Team's stringer weight.  There will NOT be another measuring attempt made, so make it count! 

  • Weigh Master reserves the right to retain any fish for further inspection, if deemed necessary.

  • All final decisions on eligibility and acceptance of a stringer will be at the Weigh Master and Tournament Director's discretion.

  • If there are any ties after the completion of Day 2 for this tournament only, the winners will be determined by heaviest daily stringer after added 'live fish bonus'.  Example:  Team A & B each have 26lbs at the conclusion of Day 2.  Team A had a heavy stringer of 14.50lb on Day 1....Team B heaviest daily stringer is 14.25lb on Day 2...Team A would be determined the winner!  If there is still a tie of daily heaviest stringer weight, the winnings of tied spots will be divided equally.

  • Daily Side Pots will be available.  With each team's paid entry fee, they will be automatically entered into all 4 tournament side pots (Two on Day 1 & Two on Day 2) which will pay $500.00 each!  Side Pot categories for both days will be Heaviest Daily Stringer (after 1/2lb bonus) and Most COMBINED Spots of stringer (Spots for both fish weighed in will be counted and combined…NO ADDITIONAL FISH MAY BE BROUGHT IN).  Each side pot will pay $500 to the winner of each daily category.  For Most Spots, any spots that are touching and/or continuous will be counted as one.  Each team may only weigh in two fish max. per day.  Angler must notify Weigh Master before submitting fish for record.  The Weigh Master will make all final decisions.  Any Side Pot category ties will be determined by Check-In time for that day only.

  • DAY 2 WILL CONSIST OF 12 TEAMS TOTAL COMPETING FOR THE PAYOUTS & SIDE POTS....THE REMAININS 8 TEAMS ELIMINATED ON DAY 1 WILL BE COMPETING FOR SIDE POT & BONUS PRIZE ONLY
  • 2 WILD CARDS WILL ADVANCE TO DAY 2 COMPETITION...THE 2 WILD CARDS WILL BE THE HEAVIEST STRINGERS OF THE 'LOSING TEAMS' ON DAY 1 (1 FROM EACH BRACKET)
  • ONLY 1 LEGAL FISH IS NEEDED TO ADVANCE ON DAY 1 (IF A SINGLE FISH STRINGER OUTWEIGHS A FULL 3-FISH STRINGER AFTER BONUS WEIGHT, THE SINGLE FISH STRINGER WINS!)...NOTE:  IF TEAMS COMPETING HEAD-TO-HEAD ON DAY 1 BOTH ZERO (SKUNK) AND HAVE NO FISH TO WEIGH, AN ADDITIONAL WILD CARD FROM THAT BRACKET WILL ADVANCE IN THEIR PLACE.  THIS PROCESS WILL CONTINUE, AS NEEDED, TO ENSURE THAT A MINIMUM OF 6 TEAMS FROM EACH BRACKET WILL BE REPRESENTED ON DAY 2.
  • DAY 1 MATCHUPS WILL BE DRAWN RANDOMLY VIA LIVE DRAWING ON UCKA FACEBOOK PAGE ONCE THE BRACKETS ARE FILLED
  • WEIGH-INS WILL BE HELD AT FORT ANAHUAC PARK (1704 S MAIN ST, ANAHUAC, TX  77514) FROM 2:30PM-4:00PM BOTH DAYS.  YOU MUST BE CHECKED IN ON OFFICIAL CHECK-IN SHEET AT WEIGH-IN BY 4:00PM ON BOTH DAYS TO QUALIFY.  CHECK-IN TABLE AND SCALES WILL BE SET UP UNDERNEATH PAVILION #1 ON BOTH DAYS. 
  • FISHING TIMES WILL BEGIN @ 6:00AM ON MAY 19TH AND MUST BE OFF THE WATER BY 4:00PM.  MAY LAUNCH AT ANY TIME ON EITHER DAY OF TOURNAMENT.  FISHING TIMES WILL RESUME @ 6:00AM ON MAY 20TH.   
  • NO FISHING OUTSIDE OF TOURNAMENT HOURS IS ALLOWED (4:00PM ON MAY 19 - 6:00AM ON MAY 20 IS OFF-LIMITS)
  • ALL TIES (EXCLUDING DAY 2 SIDE POT) WILL BE DETERMINED BY CHECK-IN TIME
  • SALT CLUB WILL BE DESIGNATED WEIGHMASTER TEAM ON BOTH DAYS...MEASURING STICK WILL BE A 'V' STYLE SILVER CHECK-IT STICK MOUNTED ON A SLANTED BOARD...THE "PERFECT PINCHER" TOOL WILL BE USED TO REACH MAXIMUM LENGTH ON FISH....ANY FISH THAT MEASURES OVER 28" WILL BE DQ'D...WILL NOT AFFECT REST OF STRINGER WEIGHT....WEIGHMASTER WILL MAKE ALL FINAL DECISIONS
  • IMPORTANT:  ALL WEIGHTS WILL RESET ON DAY 2...HEAVIEST STRINGER ON DAY 2 WILL BE CROWNED THE SHOWDOWN CHAMPION!

2nd ANNUAL SETX SHOOTOUT! (To Benefit Heroes On the Water-SETX Chapter)

This is going to be a 2 day- 2 person Team Tournament! If an angler wants to fish solo they may do so but must still pay the full entry fee

  • Only 2 slot redfish per day will be your team weight. Winning weight will be a combined 2 day total.  Weigh-Ins will be held daily (Sat-Sun) @ SALT Club Clubhouse located on Pleasure Island, TX from 3pm-4:30pm.
  • Fishing Times will be as follows:  6am - 4:30pm...You may launch your kayak at any time but NO line may enter the water before 6am on Day 1.  All fishing on Day 1 must cease @ 4:30pm and may not begin again until 6am on Day 2.   
  • A 1/2 pound 'Live Fish' bonus will be awarded to each daily stringer.  Only one fish must be alive to receive the 1/2 pound bonus weight.  Maximum bonus weight will be 1/2 pound per stringer per day.
  • All entrants MUST register at designated check-in table located at the weigh-in area before weighing in any fish.
  • Method of Measurement:  Weigh Master will utilize a 'V' style Check-It Stik (Measuring device will be available for viewing at the Captain's Meeting).  Weigh Master will pinch the tail to reach maximum length of fish.  A fish will be given only ONE opportunity to measure in the slot (20" - 28").  If an entered fish exceeds the allowable limits, only that fish will be Disqualified and will not affect the rest of the Team's stringer weight.  There will NOT be another measuring attempt made, so make it count! 
  • Weigh Master reserves the right to retain any fish for further inspection, if deemed necessary.
  • All final decisions on eligibility and acceptance of a stringer will be at the Weigh Master and Tournament Director's discretion.
  • If there are any ties after the completion of Day 2 for this tournament only, the winners will be determined by heaviest daily stringer after added 'live fish bonus'.  Example:  Team A & B each have 26lbs at the conclusion of Day 2.  Team A had a heavy stringer of 14.50lb on Day 1....Team B heaviest daily stringer is 14.25lb on Day 2...Team A would be determined the winner!  If there is still a tie of daily heaviest stringer weight, the winnings of tied spots will be divided equally.
  • Daily Side Pots will be available.  With each team's $50 side pot HOW donation, they will be automatically entered into all 4 tournament side pots (Two on Day 1 & Two on Day 2) which will pay $500.00 each!  Side Pot categories for both days will be Heaviest Daily Stringer (after 1/2lb bonus) and Most COMBINED Spots of stringer (Spots for both fish weighed in will be counted and combined).  Each side pot will pay $500 to the winner of each daily category.  For Most Spots, any spots that are touching and/or continuous will be counted as one.  Each team may only weigh in two fish max. per day.  Angler must notify Weigh Master before submitting fish for record.  The Weigh Master will make all final decisions.  Any Side Pot category ties will be determined by Check-In time for that day only. 
  • There will be an additional 50/50 cash side pot (Heaviest Flounder) available for purchase at the Captain's Meeting only to benefit the Cristin and Katie Grubbs Foundation.
  • There will also be an additional BONUS BIG FISH prize given for the Heaviest Single Red of the tournament.
  • Species of fish:  Redfish must be between 20"-28"
  • Anglers must stay inshore! No Jetties or surf may be fished. Anglers can fish any public waters in TX or LA, but must launch from an area accessible to the general public. No private launches!  You may launch in La if you choose to do so, but MUST follow all Texas legal limits.
  • No 'mothershipping' will be allowed.  All entrants MUST launch their vessel.
  • Team members must stay within 100 yards of each other at all times.  Communication between teammates is acceptable.  No communication between competing teams that could provide a competitive advantage will be allowed.  
  • Louisiana waters are allowed but must follow all Texas state fish and game laws.
  • Captain's meeting will be the night before. At least one member from the team MUST be present...NO EXCEPTIONS  Captain's Meeting will be held at the SALT Club Clubhouse located on Pleasure Island, TX from 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday, Oct. 21.  There will be a meal provided along with multiple raffle items to help raise $$$ for HOW-SETX.
  • Artificial only. No live bait and no tandem rigs!  Umbrella Rigs, multi-hook rigs, Tandem rigs are not allowed!  Using them will result in disqualification of the tournament.
  • PFD's MUST be worn at all times while on the water during Tournament hours.
  • All protests MUST be submitted in writing along with $100 CASH MONEY before the scales close @ 4:30pm on either day of competition.  The protest will be heard and a decision made by Tournament Directors AFTER the scales close on the respective day.  If the protest is upheld, the money ($100) will be refunded, otherwise it will be entered into Tournament proceeds.
